EYFS
The EYFS sets standards for the learning, development, and care of children up to age 5.
EYFS stipulates four overarching principles for the care and education of children from six months to the end of reception year at school.
These four themes are:
-
Every child is a unique child, who is constantly learning and can be resilient, capable, confident, and self-assured.
-
Children learn to be strong and independent through positive relationships.
-
Children learn and develop well in enabling environments, in which their experiences respond to their individual needs and there is a strong partnership between practitioners and parents and/or carers.
-
Children develop and learn in different ways and at different rates. The framework covers the education and care of all children in early years' provision, including children with special educational needs and disabilities.
Learning and Development
At our Pre-School we follow the seven main areas of learning and development as set out by EYFS. All areas of learning and development are important and inter-connected. Three areas are particularly crucial for igniting children’s curiosity and enthusiasm for learning, and for building their capacity to learn, form relationships and thrive. These three areas are referred to as Prime Areas which are:
Communication and Language, Physical development and Personal, Social and Emotional.
And four specific areas are:
Literacy, Mathematics, Understanding of the world, and Expressive arts and design
At Woodhall farm Pre-School we consider each child as an individual, taking account of their needs, interests, and particular stage of development. We use this information to plan a challenging and enjoyable experience for each child in all areas of learning and development and then track their progress. Each area of learning and development has early learning goals. The EYFS framework describes these goals and gives details of assessment of children from the age of two. We use these guidelines to enable children to acquire their goals. Observations and records help us to track each child’s progress and enable us to provide the right activities to help children achieve and progress. Woodhall farm Pre-School offers a varied selection of activities throughout the day using both indoor and outdoor activities to help each child learn and understand skills that will help fit into the world physically, intellectually, emotionally, and socially.
